Here in Taylor we have to worry about keeping our homes cool and comfortable when it’s hot outside, especially during the summer. According to the Berkeley National Laboratory 85% of a home’s heating or cooling is lost through the attic, and over 90% of homes are under insulated. That means the most important place in your home to insulate properly is your attic.
Insulation products are rated in R-values, these ratings designate the restrictive heat flow of the insulation. Ideal ratings are higher, rather than lowery, for example older homes that have not had their insulation replaced typically have an R-value around 11, whereas newer homes have an R-value of 38 or higher. Having the proper kind and right amount of insulation is the best way to ensure your home’s heating and cooling system is able to maintain a comfortable temperature inside your home.
Due to the advancement in insulation products and installation procedures, it may be tempting to try doing your own attic insulation, but it takes very little for incorrectly installed insulation to cause poor air flow ultimately trapping the hot air in your home. or Batting
Aura’s attic insulation Taylor technicians are experienced with different insulation types and installation practices. We use two main types of insulations, spray in insulation and batting insulation.
Spray in insulation consists of loose fill fibers that are sprayed into the attic at the proper depth to attain the best R-value. Spray in insulation is typically used for attics with irregular joist spacing, or obstructions making navigating the space difficult.
Batting insulation is flexible material packaged in rolls and cut to fit between the joists in attics and can be stacked to reach the desired R-value. Batting insulation is typically used in attics that have standard joist spacing, or to completely replace insulation.

Insulation Removal
and Replacement
and Replacement
We commonly get asked “when should I replace or add attic insulation?” Most insulation products degrade after just 15 years. However, if you’ve noticed issues with your heating or cooling system, have drafts, or see moldy or wet insulation, it may be time to add or replace your insulation. If you aren’t happy with your AC’s capabilities, and have had your system checked out but are still not satisfied, it may be time to consider some new insulation. If you haven’t had your AC checked yet, you can see more on our Air Conditioning page. If you’ve noticed any wet spots or mildew smells in your attic while you were putting up Christmas decorations, you need to have this taken care of as soon as possible. If you can’t already see mold growing, you need to have the wet insulation replaced and the source of the water prevented. If you do have mold, check out our mold remediation services.
